Little Lady Ladybug Lula:

It was a long day and a late night, so I thought I could use a little luck for tomorrow and along came this little lady. I found out some pretty interesting facts & lore about lady bugs, too.

• By the end of its three-to-six-week life, a ladybug may eat some 5,000 aphids.

• In Sweden, if a ladybug lands on a young maiden’s hand, she will soon be getting married.

• The name “ladybug” was coined by European farmers who prayed to the Virgin Mary when pests began eating their crops. After ladybugs came and wiped out the invading insects, the farmers named them “beetle of Our Lady.” This eventually was shortened to “lady beetle” and “ladybug.”

• Ladybugs are the official state insect of Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Tennessee.

You can find out more about lady bugs, just like I did by visiting the following websites. The San Diego Zoo, National Geographic, & The Ladybug Creature Feature at The National Geographic Kids Site (which I personally found to be the best out of all of them.)
